Tour Reviews
Hello Diego,
Hope this finds you well and that your knee is much better. We are settling back into our routines now and often thinking back to the last few weeks in Ecuador. It was a very good trip and we really enjoyed discovering your beautiful country.
As promised, we are sending you comments on the experience.
In terms of accommodations, all but one of the places where we stayed were good. Cann’s House and the Wooden House were the best, both in terms of the hotels themselves and the helpfulness of the staff. The staff at the Deja Vu and the Portal de Cantuna were also very kind and helpful. The Isla de Banos was also very nice and we really enjoyed the massages they offer. The only place we really didn’t like was the Quito Airport Suites. We couldn’t sleep because of all the road and air traffic and we felt isolated in a location without any services or attractions we could walk to. The staff were kind and helpful but there were clearly too few of them to run the place more smoothly. While conveniently close to the airport, we feel that it would be better to choose another property. The shuttle driver also does a dangerous manœuvre backing up on part of the highway to the airport in order to do a U-turn, which we feel is unnecessary and unsettling.
The excursions you had booked for us in the Galapagos were all excellent, as was the tour at Cotopaxi with Estela. We also enjoyed the tours you organized with Sebastian in Quito and the waterfalls tour with Clever in Banos.
The trekking was excellent if sometimes challenging (like at Los Ilinizas!). We very much appreciated you sharing your knowledge about the places as well as guiding us along the trails. We also appreciated learning from Clever about the geology of the Andes. With you, we visited some extraordinarily beautiful places and we loved being in nature. The Andes are very special to us.
We were a little disappointed by the hot springs in Papallacta, which seemed more like an outdoor pool than a natural retreat. We understand that the location more popular with tourists is quite a bit farther from Quito but it may be worth the extra drive to go there.
One thing we found stressful was sorting out the logistics for transfers on and between the islands. It would have been helpful to have more details written down in the itinerary (i.e. where we are met by a hotel employee or taxi driver at the wharf, where the lancha offices are for each boat company, information about needing small change for the many water taxis we have to take back and forth, times for the excursions or boats to the next island, etc.) We also would have felt more reassured if we had received tickets or photos of the tickets for the inter-island boats well in advance, as we had limited access to wi-fi and on Isabela, it didn’t always work properly.
The Galapagos were truly extraordinary and we feel privileged to have visited them. We felt the whole time that we were in a unique and very special place because of the natural environment and the wildlife.
A special note of thanks to you and to Clever for taking the time to return to Insilivi to help us search for Dan’s lost phone. We really appreciate that you did that for us.
Thank you once again for organizing this extraordinary trip and for guiding us on the trekking. Thanks again also to Clever for driving us for a week and to Sebastian in Quito as well.
Best regards,
Daniel and Philippe
