Tour Reviews
I did this tour after completing an 8 day cruise through the western side of the Galapagos Islands. It was a wonderful complement to the tour I’d already taken. I was able to visit 3 additional islands and spent time in 2 communities that I would not have visited otherwise. Diego Altamirano and Barefoot Expeditions were able to customize my trip a bit based on my personal interests. Everything was arranged for me; all I had to do was show up and participate in snorkeling tours (Santa Fe Island and Kicker Rock), an island tour (San Christobal Island), and a couple of wildlife sanctuaries (The Darwin Center and a Tortoise “Nursery”). The accommodations in Santa Cruz and San Christobal were wonderful, the hosts were friendly and helpful, the tour guides were knowledgeable and professional, it was all just great. My only regret was not having a few more days to see a few more islands! I really liked having both kinds of experience, viewing Galapagos from a boat and from an island hopping perspective.
Diego and Barefoot Expeditions were critical to making this such a great experience. Diego knows the islands, the tours, and even the individual guides and hosts personally, and he made sure I had a consistently positive, well planned experience. I saw all the species of animals that Galapagos is known for, was thrilled with the beauty of so many of the places, and loved meeting all the people along the way.
I should note that my Spanish speaking skills were quite limited, and I was mostly on my own for this part of the trip. However, between my kindergarten Spanish, the friendliness and patience of the people I met, and a little help from google translate (!), I had a fabulous time. Highly recommend this experience and Barefoot Expeditions!
